Choices #life

“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.” ― Oscar Wilde

Life is the strangest of things. We are born we live and then we die.

Life goes on and life is lived all around us. The nature of things and of being is a mystery to all. The great questions of why are we here and what is the meaning of it all have been wrestled by many great minds both religious and scientific.

One thing is for certain you are here, and in this moment you are reading these words.

You have the choice to stop reading now, or to carry on reading till the end. That small choice would seemingly be insignificant, the main factors being simply put, do I have the time, am I that interested or alternatively am I really that invested.

Why you make choices and the choices we make are important. It is a part of what makes us who we are. Choices are important and that will be the focus of the remainder of what I write.

A life without choice is a half life.

What, When, Why, How

The questions, the choices

A law that says your choice is wrong

may not always be right

Some choices have consequences

On occasion those choices will change a life

For better or worse

Sickness or health

At times those choices will be just what to eat

What I will wear, what I will drink

What is life without choices

The ability to choose

When life changes, through no choice of your own

What would this mean to you

Choices removed

I now choose for you

Would this be life

Or just no longer your life

A life without choices

Is it really a life

Choices great and small

Make you, you

Choices we make in the passing of the day

Choosing where to live

The house to buy

Choosing not to choose

Is still a choice of its own

To make the right choice

Do you need all the facts

To choose wisely

Some will say you do

To choose something risky

Scary and new

To choose to do nothing

And never do something new

It is your choice to do

But I would prefer if you do

The reason I do

Is it anything to you

Why I do what I do

Means everything to me

Being able to do

The ability to choose

Means the world to me

Choices big or small

They matter to us all

Take them away

What would this mean to you

Adult social care is my career of choice. I help others to live the life they want to choose. An army of support workers asking what you would like. A shower or bath followed by the meal of your choice. The right to make choice, to take risk and to learn. Empowering others one choice at a time. Through sickness and health, we are there for you. Independence and choice, it is what we do. We know what matters we know what it means to you. Life without choices, a half life, if life at all. From the holidays you take, the courses you study, the choices that you make are important to you. Taking choice away will often leave you living anxious and in fear, frustrating and debilitating choices are how we express who we are. Without them life will seem pretty shallow. To the army of support workers saying yes, you can. A thank you and praise for all that you do. Without you life would be different for those you support.

Personal centred support puts you in the middle, the driving seat and steering wheel are yours to control. The choice is yours to live a life of your choosing, make of life what you will no matter the curve balls been thrown.

Support is assistance, help and aid. The choice should be yours, your future your own.

“In the space between yes and no, there's a lifetime. It's the difference between the path you walk and the one you leave behind; it's the gap between who you thought you could be and who you really are; it's the legroom for the lies you'll tell yourself in the future.” ― Jodi Picoult

“Excellence is never an accident. It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, and intelligent execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives - choice, not chance, determines your destiny.” ― Aristotle
